Location: Barletta is situated on the Adriatic coast of Italy at the SE end of the Gulf of Manfredonia, 12 miles NW of the port of Bisceglie and 30 miles SE of the equally large commercial port of Manfredonia. General overview: It is one of the principal commercial production centres in the wine trade and a large industrial base with modern port facilities for handling mainly bulk carriers and tankers of medium size together with Ro-Ro vessels. It is also a busy fishing harbour. The principal exports include wine, edible oils, salt, acids and cement. Imports are grain, coal, bulk chemicals, fertilizers and clay. The harbour is protected from all winds by two long breakwaters extending due N from the shore, depth at the entrance 7.9m. The port is, in fact, often subject to works aimed to reduce many potential risks and it is equipped with safe western docks, quays, an eastern barrier and a western pier hosting a wet dock, in addition to another dry dock equipped with a 230-metre pier. Traffic figures: Approx 330 vessels visit the port annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: LOA: 165 m, draught: 6,6 m.
