Location: Gavle sometimes known as Gefle, is located in the Gulf of Bothnia. General overview: The port is a modern and expanding harbour which remains open all year round, with the aid of ice breakers from Jan-Mar. The Oil jetty at Karskar is under separate entry. Cargoes handled: Ore, oil, scrap metal, china clay, forest products, containers and steel. Traffic figures: Approx 1,000 vessels and 4,650,000t of cargo handled annually. Load line zone: Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Zone for ships of 100m or less in length. Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: LOA 220m, draught 10.1m.
