Location: The port of Karlstad is the largest port on Lake Vanern, 200km NNE of Gothenburg, reached from the sea via the Trollhatte Canal. General overview: It handles many varied cargoes, the main ones being oil and wood products and heavy lift items. The port is kept open all year, the canal freezes but is kept open all year, though there are tonnage limitations during the ice period. Traffic figures: Approx 1,250,000t of cargo handled annually. Max size: Trolhatte Canal: Max vessel size: LOA 87m, beam 12.6m, draught 4.7m, airdraught 27m. With special permission a vessel of LOA 88m, beam 13.2m and draught 5.4m may be accepted. Largest vessel handled: "Vanermax", LOA 89m, beam 13.4m, draught 5.4m.
