General Description
Location: Kehl is located on the E bank of the River Rhine, on the French/German border near Strasbuorg.
General overview: The port of Kehl, covering an area of 320 ha, links up the industrial activities of large firms in the southern and central area of Baden. The port is entered from the Rhine and has facilities for general/bulk, container, tanker and Ro-Ro cargoes.
Traffic figures: Around four million tonnes of cargo are handled by water each year at three port basins along banks spanning twelve kilometres. Over 3,000 ships sail into the port of Kehl each year to load and unload their cargoes.
Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.
Max size: There are no length restrictions in the harbour but there is a max LOA of 185 m for the lock system on the Rhine.
The largest vessel called at the port: LOA: 190 m, draught: 4.5 m, deadweight: 4,500 t.
