The shipping platform

Location: The harbour of Porto di Vasto lies at the promontory of Punta Penna on the Adriatic coast of Italy four miles N of the town of Vasto and 18 miles NW from the harbour of Termoli. General overview: The port's of Vasto mouth is delimited by two breakwaters for a width of about 250 meters and the surface of the port basin is equal to 121.000,00 m2. The operational quays have a total length of approximately 1000 metres: nearly 680 m are related to the commercial traffic of the port (180 m along the Western quay; 300 m along the Shore quay; 200 m along the Eastern quay). There is also a small Ro-Ro berth near to the entrance of the harbour. Part of the East Quay is reserved for the use of fishing vessels. Passengers are disembarked at the East Quay. The depth of water in the harbour varies from 5.0-10.0m. There is a large area for cargo handling/operations located on the Banchina di Riva. Essentially a commercial and fishing harbour, there are pontoons managed by the local yacht club which provide a useful stop for yachts cruising this coast. Traffic figures: Approx 550,000t of cargo loaded/discharged and 5,000 passengers are handled annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: LOA 170m, draught 5.9m.
