General overview: The Port of Benghazi is a large commercial port serving the surrounding region and capable of accommodating tankers, containers, Ro-Ro, and general cargo vessels. The port comprises two main sections: The old harbor: It features nine berths (1-9) for receiving general cargo, containers, and tugs. However, due to infrastructural damage, the "Old Port" is no longer in use. Juliana harbor: It consists of nine berths (10-18) for handling general cargo, containers, silos, direct delivery goods, and bulk items. The Port of Benghazi handles various activities, including the reception of general cargo, containers, livestock, and oil. The Libya Ports and Maritime Transport Authority has proposed the development of a marine passenger terminal and yacht marina in Benghazi, seeking local investment. Additionally, the port is home to one of the largest water desalination plants globally. Ship-shore bulk handling equipment is situated at berth 7, primarily catering to liquid bulk traffic, especially tankers. Dry bulk shipments mainly include grain and cement. The main exports from Benghazi Port consist of sheep, wool, hides, goat's hair fabrics, and woolen rugs. Imports primarily involve foodstuffs, tobacco, textiles, pottery, and chemical products.
