General Description
Location: Cairns is located in Queensland on the NE coast of Australia adjacent to two of nature's most magnificent ecosystems, the Great Barrier Reef and Tropical Rainforest, both World Heritage listed.
General overview: The port has eleven berths for cargo, container, cruise liners and tourist vessels. Exports: Include sugar, molasses, petroleum products and minerals. Imports: Petroleum products, fertiliser, LPG and general cargoes.
Traffic figures: Approx 1,600 vessels, 1,192,000t of cargo and 18,462TEU handled annually. Load line zone: Tropical.
Max size: The largest vessel to have entered the port has been of 55,451GT and the longest has been of LOA 267m.
The deepest draught handled has been 10.1m. Vessels up to 32,000DWT and 8.5m draught can be accepted as a matter of routine.
