General Description
Location: The port is located in the Gulf of Nicoya, on Pacific coast. General overview: Caldera is principal port terminal for the railway to San Jose and, besides being a major container port for the area, has facilities for general cargo, Ro-Ro and bulk solid cargoes. There is one long breakwater running approx 300m from W to E, then another 300m from NW to SE which protects the port from the W and SW. Traffic figures: 117 vessels per annum with a total of 2,179,630DWT. Load line zone: Tropical. Max size: Alongside: LOA 205m, max draught 10.0m. CBM: LOA 175m, draught 9.9m.
