General Description
Location: Tilbury is situated on the N bank of the Thames, approx 40km E of London Bridge. General overview: The port has 34 berths with cargo and passenger handling facilities covering in excess of 303ha. All berths are equipped with modern facilities to handle a full range of cargo types, including containers, grain, forest products and general cargo. Facilities also exist at dedicated terminals for the handling of aggregates, scrap metal, bulk cement and temperature controlled store, chilled, frozen food produce and car imports. A dedicated container and trailer depot is operated by the port. All berths are within a locked dock with the exception of Tilbury Grain Terminal, Tilbury Riverside Ro-Ro Terminal, International Cruise Terminal and TCT Container Terminal. The entire port is designated a Freeport. Traffic figures: Approx 8,700,000t of cargo, including 342,000TEU and 37 cruise ships handled annually.
