General Description

Location: Immingham is situated on the S bank of the River Humber, 10nm from the open sea. General overview: The port consists of an enclosed dock together with 6 river jetties. Four of the river jetties offer specialised facilities for the handling of all types of bulk liquids and gases. The fifth, the Immingham Bulk Terminal, is used by Corus for the import of iron ore and other minerals. The sixth is the Humber International Terminal (HIT), a new deep water multipurpose facility. HIT is able to handle the largest vessels capable of entering the Humber Estuary. The first phase of the project provides a 300m berth capable of handling Cape size vessels up to 14.0m draught and carrying in excess of 100,000t of cargo. The initial phase provides 10,000m² of general purpose warehousing and an additional 60ha of land immediately available for development. Cargo handling is by 3 x 100t mobile harbour cranes. Principal imports: Chemicals, fertilisers, iron ore, crude minerals and ores, liquid acids and petroleum products, coal, vehicles, timber, general cargo. Exports: Vehicles, chemicals, iron and steel, petroleum, coke and petroleum products. Traffic figures: Approx 6,200 vessels and 64,000,000t of cargo handled by Grimsby and Immingham annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.
