Location: Zhapu, also called Jiaxing, is located on the N shore of Hangzhou Bay, approx 50nm S of Shanghai. General overview: Zhapu was formerly the port of Hangzhou (also known as Hangchow). The port has been developed into a deep water facility with the construction of offshore berths at Chenshan (see separate entry). Principal cargoes handled include coal, oil, timber, steel, cement, grain and general cargo. Traffic figures: Approx 24,175,000t of cargo and 32,000TEU handled annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: Zhapu Port: LOA 232m, max draught 11.0m SW, 40,000DWT. No specified limits on beam or airdraught. Jiaxing Port: Max draught 15.0m at HW.
