General Description

Location: Cam Pha is situated on the NE coast of Vietnam, in Quang Ninh Province in the north of the country. 35 n.m. ENE of Hai Phong and 16 n.m. E×N of Ha Long, in the Gulf of Tonkin. General overview: Cam Pha is a modern multipurpose port containing one of VietТam's largest cement production works and coal terminals. The port is owned and operated by CamphaPort and Logistics Company, a subsidiary of Vinacomin, the government owned company which mines coal and other minerals. Though the port of Cẩm Phả has a general maximum draft of 4.8 metres, it has a separate coal loading terminal with a dredged depth of 6.1 metres and a channel depth of 7.1 metres. This allows ships of up to 10 metres draft to load due to the tidal range in the port. The coal loading terminal is 299 metres long, and can accommodate ships that are 165 metres in length, at an average loading rate of 6,000 tonnes per day. Traffic figures: Approx 4,300 vessels and 21,230,000t of cargo handled annually. Load line zone: China Sea Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Jan 21 to Apr 30, Summer May 1 to Jan 20. Max size: Draught: 9.5 m alongside, 13.5 m, size: 74,000 DWT at anchorage. Bulk: 75,000 d.w.t., depth 10.5 m. Largest vessel handled: "Ocean Eagle" LOA 224.9m, beam 32.26m, draught 14.1m, loaded 55,000t of coal.
