General Description
Location: Port Esquivel is located near Old Harbour in St Catherine at the head of Portland Bight on the southern coast of Jamaica. General overview: The port has a concrete and steel pier which can load 35,560t of alumina in a turn around time of 38 hours. It provides berthing for two vessels at a time, one handling Alcan's alumina shipments, the other utilised for general cargo. Molasses are shipped from this port and the JPS electric power station supplied with fuel via hoses from either berth. Traffic figures: Approx 2,500,000t of cargo handled by the port annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Nov 1 to Jul 15, Summer Jul 16 to Oct 31. Max size: E Berth: Max LOA 200m, draught 10.97m. Tankers/general cargo.
