General Description
Location: The port of San Pedro de Macoris is located on the Higuamo River on the S coast of the island, approx 60km E of Santo Domingo. General overview: The port is used mainly for exporting sugar and molasses produced by several sugar cane mills in the region. The port is also used to import bulk fertilisers, coal and cement clinkers in bulk. Occasionally fertilisers and cement in bags are exported in small vessels to adjacent islands. Tankers discharge fuel and diesel oil to shore tanks. Traffic figures: Approx 210 vessels visit the port annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Nov 1 to Jul 15, Summer Jul 16 to Oct 31. Max size: Alongside: LOA 198m, beam 30.4m, draught 7.3m. LPG SBM: LOA 213m, draught 12.5m.
