General Description
Location: Vung Tau Port is situated at the entrance to the estuary made up of the Sai Gon, Thi Vai and Dinh Rivers, on the SE coast of Vietnam.
General overview: The commercial port is located 5km E from Vung Tau city on the Dinh River. The principal imports are, general cargo, machinery oil drilling chemicals and equipment. Exports include agricultural products and timber logs. There are the PTSC and Vietsov petro ports with oil and gas facilities near Thang Nhut and Cat Lo, also an FPSO export vessel within the port area.
Vung Tau port includes the following component ports:
- Cai Mep - Thi Vai Port, Sao Mai-Ben Dinh: This is the main port for container transport. Currently, the port is capable of receiving ships up to 200,000 DWT. The main container terminals are TCTT/TCIT, CMIT, TCTT, SSIT and Gemalink (expected to officially open January 2020).
- Ports of Phu My, My Xuan: a general port, a container port capable of receiving ships up to 30,000 DWT. As planned by the government of Vietnam, this port will be capable of receiving ships up to 80,000 DWT.
- Port on Dinh river: is capable of receiving ships up to 20,000 DWT, and will be capable to handle ships up to 30,000 DWT.
- Port of Ben Dam, Con Dao Island.
Vung Tau port includes the following terminals:
- Gaimei Shiwei port, saomar benting: This is the main port for container transportation until 2020. At present, the port can receive ships up to 50000 DWT. The Vietnamese government is formulating the port, which can handle 100000 DWT ships by 2015.
- A general terminal capable of receiving up to 30000 DWT container ships. Port: Fu Mei, my Xuan port. As planned by the Vietnamese government, the port will be able to receive up to 80000 DWT vessels.
- Port Shangting River: capable of receiving up to 20000 DWT and will be able to handle up to 30000 DWT.
Anchorages:
- GANH RAI TRANSSHIPMENT AREA: Consists of 14 anchorage positions used for tankers, gas and dangerous cargo vessels and 2 positions for discharging cargo. Positions also reserved for passenger ships.
- GO GIA TRANSSHIPMENT AREA: Consists of the following positions:
1. 10A°31.4'N 108A°03.3'E Used for vessels less than 10,000DWT
2. 10A°31.5'N 107A°59.4'E Used for vessels less than 20,000DWT
3. 10A°31.5'N 108A°00.1'E Used for vessels less than 30,000DWT
4. 10A°31.4'N 107A°59.3'E Used for vessels less than 50,000DWT
- CAMBODIA TRANSIT AREA: Position 10A°20'N 107A°03'E. Used for vessels with airdraught less than 30m and draught less than 4.2m in the dry season, 5.0m in the rain season Vessels should use ship's derrick or shore cranes.
- BACH HO TERMINAL: No Wharf Crude Oil Export.

For tankers with LOA 250m, beam 42m, draught 15m, less than 110,000DWT.
Traffic figures: Approx 450 vessels and 400,000t of cargo handled annually.
Load line zone: China Sea Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Jan 21 to Apr 30, Summer May 1 to Jan 20.
Max size:
- Commercial Port: Max length 200m, 25,000DWT, draught 8.5m. Vessels exceeding these dimensions must have permission from the Director of Vung Tau Port Authority.
-Bach Ho Export tankers: LOA 250m, beam 42m, draught 15.0m, 110,000DWT.
IMO:
IMO cargo can be discharged & loaded - Manifest & BL are to be submitted in 3- 4 days prior to arrival.
Transit cargo can be accepted in all ports of Vietnam, Manifest is to be submitted in 3 days before arrival.
