Location: Brake is located between Bremen and Bremerhaven, 26km upstream from the entrance of the River Weser. General overview: Brake is a modern, multi-functional speciality port focused on dry bulk and breakbulk cargo The southern section of the port serves as a transshipment facility for animal feedstock and grain (known as the Agri Terminal), while the northern section is used for handling forestry products, iron, steel, project cargo, wind energy components and sulphur. Within the inner harbour, accessible via sea lock, coastal motor vessels and barges can be cleared and handled.The port, which is operated by the Niedersachsen Ports Group, consists of a 1.7km long riverside quay. The S end, with a length of 500m, handles grain and feedstuffs and the N end mainly handles break bulk, iron/steel, forest products, containers, project and general cargo. There is also a sulphur terminal to the N of the quay. Traffic figures: Approx 6,430,000t of cargo, 2,330TEU and 880 vessels handled annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: Max arrival draught 11.9m HW, departing draught 11.6m HW. - Breakbulk: Depth 12.2 m.
