Location: Wilhelmshaven is located in the NW of Germany, is situated between the rivers Ems and Weser, on the western banks of the Jade delta, in the SE part of the North Sea. General overview: Wilhelmshaven is the only German deepwater port and has the largest import terminal for crude oil, a significant transfer terminal for mineral oil, coal and chemical products. A non-tidal, twin lock, Inner Hafen for transferring bulk, containers, refrigerated cargo, foodstuff and general cargo as well as specific cargoes. Cargoes handled: Imports comprise crude oil, steam coal, chemicals, fertilisers, perishable foodstuffs, timber, salt and containerised cargo. Exports are petroleum products, LPG, liquid chemicals, scrap and containerised cargo. Traffic figures: Approx 1,260 vessels, 40,310,000t of cargo and 1,100 passengers handled annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: LOA 350m, beam 52m, draught 20.0m (arrival) 19.0m (departure). Draughts over 16.5m are tide restricted. - Locks: Length 360 m., breadth 57 m., depth 11.4 m. (CD). - Containers: 18,000 TEU. - Ro-Ro: Depth 11.5 m. - Bulk: 250,000 d.w.t., LOA 320 m., draft 18.5 m. - Tankers: Displacement 350,000 tonnes, LOA 330 m., draft 17.1 m. - Gas: 13,500 d.w.t., LOA 150 m., draft 8.5 m. The largest vessel handled: ULCC of 415,000DWT carrying a part cargo of 280,000t of crude oil.
