Location: The port is located in Rayong province and is situated on the Gulf of Thailand on a stretch of E/W oriented coastline S of Bangkok, approx midway between Sattahip to the W and Ko Samet island to the E. General overview: Map Ta Phut is an artificial harbour. The primary purpose of Map Ta Phut port is to serve the immediate needs of the petrochemical complex as well as to allow possibilities for expansion reflecting future industrial requirements. Besides terminals for export and import of bulk cargo the port has extensive facilities for the handling of petrochemical products and LNG. Map Ta Phut port is an industrial harbour owned and managed by the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT). The port comprises public and privately owned berths. The Port of Map Ta Phut Multipurpose Terminal is a modern facility that includes two berths. The main berth is 330 meters long with alongside depth of 12.5 meters, and it can accommodate vessels to 60 thousand DWT. The small vessel berth is 150 meters long with alongside depth of 6 meters. The terminal's back-up area covers 80 thousand square meters including 75 thousand square meters of open yard for general cargo, containers, heavy-lift and bulk cargoes. The warehouse of over four thousand square meters handles a variety of cargoes. Traffic figures: Approx 7,000 vessels and 23,000,000t of cargo handled annually. Load line zone: Tropical.
