The port is a major hub for the import of iron ore, crude oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), coal, and construction materials. It is also a significant exporter of steel, petroleum products, and chemicals.
he Port of Oita has several main wharves:
- Zuoji wharf with 2 berths (185m // 9.1m depth) for 10,000 ton ships,
- Yijin wharf with 5 steel berths (200-240m // 11-12m Depth) capable of 35,000DWT,
4 310m long berths (20-22m Depth) for 50,000-300,000 DWT vessels.
- Kyushu oil pile wharf and offshore oil berth (15-20m water depth) for 150,000-270,000 DWT tankers.
- Public terminal with 4 berths (2 5000 DWT // 2 10,000-15,000 DWT vessels) serving the Daphan Steel Works and Kyushu Refinery.
