General Description

Location: Hanko, the southern most port of Finland, is situated on the SW coast, approx. 150km SW of Helsinki. General overview: The Port of Hanko is a considered a crucial port as it gives immediate access to the Baltic Sea. The port consists of 3 harbours: (Western, Outer, Koverhar) handling both dry cargo & Ro/Ros. The port remains open throughout the year with the assistance of State icebreakers. Harbours: - Western Harbour (5 Berths) Handles project cargoes, steel products, forest exports and Ro/Ros. - Berth No.1 (Length 245m // Depth 14m) | MPP Crane (50t) - Berth No.2 (Length 230m // Depth 10.1m) - Berth No.3 (Length 245m // Depth 10.1m) - Berth No.4 (Length 160m // Depth 10.1m) - Berth No.1 (Length 210m // Depth 8.6m) Storage: - Open (260,000m2) - Covered (50,000m2) - Outer Habour (2 Berths) Mostly handles vehicles, heavy lifts and steel cargoes. - Berth No.1 (Length 196m // Depth 10.5m) - Berth No.2 (Length 160m // Depth 7.8m) Approx. 130 vessels call annually - Koverhar Harbour (2 Berths) Handles bulk cargoes. - Berth No.1 (Length 250m // Depth 11m) - Berth No.2 (Length 117m // Depth 9.2m) Cargoes: - Exports include plywood, paper, woodpulp, rayon fibre, butter, tar and cellulose, - Imports are new motor vehicles, cotton, coal, iron and gypsum. Traffic figures: Approx. 1,600 vessels, 3,500,000t of cargo and 170,900 passengers handled annually. Load line zone: - Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length - Winter Seasonal Area for ships of 100m or less in length - Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, -Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: LOA 250m // Draft 13.0m Hanko is a summer tourist destination with a fast ferry link to Germany.
