Location: Brunsbuttel is located at the SW end of the Kiel Canal; at the intersection of the Kiel Canal and the River Elbe. Most of the port facilities are located on the Kiel Canal, Elbehafen is located on the north bank of the Elbe, 2 km. east of the canal locks. General overview: Brunsbuttel consists of four harbours, the main harbour being Elbeharbour (Elbehafen) which is directly on the Elbe River and three harbours inside the Kiel Canal. The port handles all traffic entering and leaving the SW end of the canal through locks which divide the port into Elbehafen Brunsbuttel and Brunsbuttel Binnenhafen, tidal and non tidal areas, respectively, where a variety of commercial cargoes are handled. The following cargoes are handled: heavy lifts, timber, iron, steel, bulk cargoes such as coal, ore, fertiliser, stones and liquid cargoes such as crude oil and liquid gas. The Elbehafen Brunsbüttel is a multi-purpose port with extended customer orientation and logistical competence. There is a trimodal terminal-connection at Brunsbüttel with efficient transport ways by truck, rail, sea vessels and barges. ● Elbenhafen In addition to two berths for ships with dry cargo, the port also has a berth for ships with liquid cargo, so that a total of three berths for seagoing ships are available. In addition, the Elbe port in the eastern basin has two berths for inland vessels. ● Ostermoor The port of Ostermoor has six berths and five transshipment bridges, which are handled by the companies ammonia, urea, crude oil and various other liquid chemicals. ● Brunsbüttel The oil port Brunsbüttel is located on the northwest side of the Kiel Canal at channel kilometer 3.55 near the Brunsbütteler canal lock. The oil port is connected to the Heide refinery in Hemmingstedt by a 32 km long pipeline, so that various refinery products can be handled in liquid form via this port. About 50 percent of the products are loaded from the Heide refinery via this port. ● Glückstadt The outer port of Glückstadt is located directly on the Elbe and thus directly on the international shipping line to and from Hamburg. It is operated by Glückstadt Port GmbH & Co. Due to its location, the port is a location for the supply of regional industrial companies such as the wood, cement and paper industries. Furthermore, the external port handles the regional agricultural demand for fertilizer, feed and grain traffic. Traffic figures: Approx 7,836,000 tonnes of cargo and 26,255 TEUs are handled annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: LOA: 350 m, beam: 55 m, draught: 14.8 m. Elbehafen: Total of five berths, Berths No. 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6. Oil Port: Total of five berths available. Berths No. 4 and 5 for tankers up to draft 6.0 m. (FW) and Berths No. 6, 7 and 8 for tankers up to draft 10.4 m. (FW). - Locks: LOA 235 m., beam 32.5 m. - Breakbulk: LOA 350 m., beam 55.0 m., draft 14.6 m. (FW). - Containers: LOA 350 m., beam 55.0 m., draft 14.6 m. (FW). - Bulk: LOA 350 m., beam 55.0 m., draft 14.6 m. (FW). - Tankers: LOA 350 m., beam 55.0 m., draft 13.8 m. (FW). - Gas: 170,000 cu.m.
